About This Event
For two countries with such close economic and security relationships, news coverage of Korea in Australia (and vice-versa) is lacking. Likewise, the number of Korean studies studying in Australia, and Australians in Korea, has failed to grow at the same rate as Australia's other education relationships with other Asian countries.
The absence of comprehensive news coverage in Australia and Korea of each other's politics, society, culture, and history does the bilateral relationship a disservice, and hinders the cultivation of familiarity between Koreans and Australians. In a similar fashion, low numbers of students from each country visiting the other to study hinders their ability to better understand each other.
This roundtable analysed how these relationships can be deepened, so as to better reflect the importance of this relationship for both countries and increase mutual understanding between everyday Koreans and Australians.
